Biography
Shogo Mizumura is a composer and pianist based in Boston, Massachusetts, originally from Kanagawa, Japan. His music blends lyrical melodies with warm, nuanced harmonies, rooted in classical tradition and shaped by influences including Rachmaninoff, Ravel, Scriabin, and Chopin. Now focusing on film scoring, he writes emotionally driven music that supports and elevates visual storytelling.

As a composer, Shogo was named a finalist for the 2025 ARTZenter Emerging Composer Grant, where he composed a 12-minute chamber orchestral music, blending classical and jazz music. He was also awarded the 2025 Ramin Djawadi Scholarship, one of the highest awards offered by the Screen Scoring Department at Berklee College of Music.

As a performer, Shogo was awarded the 2024 Emanuel Zambelli Classical Piano Scholarship and gave a 60-minute solo recital at Berklee’s David Friend Recital Hall. He performed Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Hanoi Symphony Orchestra, winning second place at the 4th Hanoi Piano Competition. In 2025, he appeared as soloist in Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall.

Shogo began playing piano at the age of five and joined the Yamaha Master Class Special Course at nine, where he studied intensively with prominent professors including the late Vera Gornostayeva and Dina Yoffe. The program also provided him with rigorous training in music theory, which laid the foundation for his development as a musician.

He spent five years as a choir accompanist and wrote a brass band piece for his high school festival, which he conducted himself. After earning a degree in physics from the University of Tokyo, he turned fully to music and is currently studying film scoring at Berklee College of Music, where he will graduate in May 2026.
